About Us

The National Alliance of Women (NAWO) is basically a women’s network formed after fourth world UN conference on Women held in Beijing 1995. Thus, NAWO was established in the year 1996 to monitor and follow up the commitments made in Beijing Conference. Since 1996 NAWO is working closely with women’s groups at the grassroot level in all the states across the Country. It has created the National Platform where women’s concerns from different corners of India get articulated.

NAWO is successfully establishing fruitful interface with the National Governments on critical issues relating to women. Founded on the principles of inclusivity and grassroots empowerment, NAWO works tirelessly to amplify the voices of women and marginalized communities .

VOICES FROM THE FIELD

When you support us, we promise to share how your generosity is transforming lives.

This is a new avenue for us and there is a lot to
learn and achieve. As a group we have not realized any tangible gain as presently we are at a nascent stage.
We have to give extra effort amidst all our personal engagement to make it a success.

Since its inception, NAWO has championed human development, initially focusing on women's issues, violence, and rights. Over time, it expanded efforts to address gender inequality, gender-based violence, and the protection of women's rights. Recognizing the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, including transgender individuals, NAWO advocates for their dignity, respect, and equality. This commitment reflects its dedication to building a just and inclusive society for all genders.

NAWO stands as a pillar of support for single women, challenging societal norms and advocating for their rights. By addressing their unique challenges—economic security, social stigma, and access to opportunities—NAWO fosters empowerment and dignity. Through skill-building, advocacy, and creating inclusive spaces, it ensures single women are seen, heard, and valued as key contributors to a just and equitable society.

The Feminist Leadership Training on Gender, Development, and Human Rights, organized by NAWO, was my first exposure to a platform where brilliant minds came together to discuss the profound impact of gender on every aspect of our lives. As a development professional, I found it both inspiring and enriching to be part of this program. It equipped me with valuable skills to analyze gender roles, understand their effects, and apply these learnings in my field of work.
